What is happening in Gaza and Israel? Everything you need to know about the conflict between them.

The conflict between Israel and Palestine has raged for generations. The war that is happening now is because of the same issues and hatred born 100 years ago. It has been 7 days now since the conflict has begun. But why are they fighting and what triggered the conflict between Palestinians and Jews again killing hundreds of civilians who has nothing to do with the fight?



What triggered the war between Israel and Gaza?


The clashes actually started 21 days before the first rockets were actually fired. It was during mid-April 2021, the start of the holy month of Ramadan there were daily violent clashes between the Israeli police and the Palestinians as the govt restricted gathering of people.


The Israeli police raided the Al-Aqsa mosque on May 7th,2021 Friday. They fired rubber-tipped bullets, while Palestinians threw rocks at them. The Israeli government said the police fired because the Palestinians were throwing stones, while the Palestinians say they were defending themselves.


The Israel forces killed 11 Palestinians on Friday on the West bank which is administered by Israel. This triggered the conflict between them and resulted in Hamas firing hundreds of rockets of towards Israel.

Hamas, an Islamist terrorist group ( in the eyes of Israel and some other countries) controls Gaza, fired rockets towards Jerusalem on 7th May,2021. "Many of the rockets fired by Hamas have been detonated by an advanced Israeli anti-missile system (Iron dome) while some have fallen short of the border".

On 11th May,2021 Israeli medics confirmed the death of a 50-year-old woman from rocket attacks near Tel Aviv. Hamas launched around 130 rockets towards the Israeli city of Tel Aviv in response for an air strike that levelled a 12-storey building in Gaza.



On 12th May, 2021 rockets from Gaza hits Israeli pipeline. At least two more people were reported killed in the Israeli city of Lod after a rocket fired from Gaza hit the area.

The Israeli prime minister said that "we are at war" after the first set of rockets were fired by Hamas and Israel returned fire with air on Gaza, killing dozens then.


The Israeli military said that Hamas and other armed groups have fired 2,800 plus rockets towards Israel in the last six days. This conflict has become so intense that the number of rockets fired by Hamas during the past 7 days was more than half the number fired during 51 days in a 2014 war between Hamas and Israel..


Chaos in Gaza:


More than 180, including at least 52 children, have been killed in the Gaza Strip since Israel fired back at Gaza and more than 1000 others have been wounded.


On 8th May, 2021 a day after Israel responded with air strike on Gaza, more than 90 Palestinians have been injured in Israeli police suppression on protesters outside Jerusalem.




Health authorities in Gaza said at least 35 Palestinians including 10 children were killed in Israeli air strikes on the Strip since late on May 10th, Monday.


1000 Palestinians were injured by Israeli forces in east Jerusalem between May 7th and May 10th, 2021. Out of the 1000, 735 injuries were caused due to rubber bullets.


On 11th May, 2021 at least 14 strikes hit various areas of the Gaza Strip, reported Al Jazeera Arabic’s correspondent in Gaza.


On 12th May, 2021 Israel strikes hit Gaza’s interior ministry buildings. The interior ministry of Gaza reported that several of its offices, including the passport office, police stations, were hit by heavy Israeli strikes on Wednesday.



Chaos continued in Gaza on 12th May as Israeli strikes killed a pregnant lady and her 5 year old son in air strikes on their house in Tel al-Hawa.


By 13th May, 2021 the death toll in Gaza has climbed above 100 as Israel pounded the enclave with more air strikes and artillery shells.


"United Nations said that 10,000 have been forced out of their homes in Gaza strip".

As per reports thousands of Palestinian families that have been effected by Israeli bombings have taken shelter in United Nations-run schools in northern Gaza to escape Israeli artillery fire.


On 14th May, 2021 Israel wiped out an entire family including 8 children and two women with an air strike.

Relatives of the Abo Hatab family mourn over the bodies of their family members in Al-Shifa Hospital.

On 15th May, 2021 an infant was among the survivors following the Israeli air strike early on Saturday at the Shati refugee camp in Gaza.


On 15th May,2021 Israeli planes hit the al-Mawasi area west of Khan Yunis governorate and Israeli security forces also shot dead at least 11 Palestinians who have been protesting in the West Bank.


Israel bombed and destroyed Al-Laala tower un Gaza that houses several media offices on 15th May,2021.



As of 15th May, 2021 at least 137 Palestinians, including 36 children, have been killed and 920 have been wounded.


On 16th May, 2021 Israeli air raids on Gaza City flattened three buildings and killed at least 42 people, said health authorities in Gaza.


On May 17th,2021 Israeli military continued to target with series of air raids just hours after Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said the attacks on the Palestinian enclave would rage on.


"197 civilians have been killed in the past one week including 58 children in Gaza".

Who are the most effected in this war?


It's humanity and the civilian lives that are lost during war and this time it's no different. No matter whom you support, be it Gaza or Israel, the fact is that atleast the 58 children who lost their lives had nothing to do with this fight. May their souls rest in peace.
