Maths, Physics No Longer Mandatory To Get Into Engineering!

Yes, you heard that right. It's not mandatory anymore for students who are dreaming to get into engineering to study "Mathematics and Physics" in Class 12 according to the new norms made by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) for 2021-22.

Until this day, only those who have opted for Math and Physics in their higher secondary school were eligible to apply for B.E and B.Tech. But now the AICTE has decided to lift it off. Students now only need to score 45% in any of the following list of subjects to qualify. The list goes as follows:

  1. Mathematics

  2. Physics

  3. Chemistry

  4. Computer Science

  5. Electronics

  6. Information Technology

  7. Biology

  8. Information Practices

  9. Bio-Technology

  10. Agriculture

  11. Technical Vocational Subject

  12. Engineering Graphics

  13. Business Studies

  14. Entrepreneurship

The Universities will offer suitable bridge courses such as Mathematics, Physics, Engineering Drawing etc for the students who come from diverse backgrounds to achieve desired learning outcomes of the programme.

However, Mathematics being the core of all engineering courses, concerns have been raised about this changed regulation.
